The Green Surprise: The Step By Step Guide To ...

By Layne Emerson

You get out of the house all ready to take that much needed plunge — but then you see it, that greenish, yucky pool water. Isn’t that green pool just the downer? I bet it just makes you want to say “Grrrrrr!”upon discovering it after the winter season.

After you take a breather, you will soon realize that eventually you will need to clear out that disgusting pool water. Yes, you may think that clearing out that kind of monstrosity will be an intimidating and demanding task. But in spite of everything, you do want to enjoy the swimming season right? Don’t worry! Here is a step to step guide to help you clear out that greenish pool water.

1. Pick up all floating debris from your pool water using a skimmer net. These can be small leaves and dirt particles.

2. Make use of a fish net to then pick up all the surfeit and heavy rubbish that might be suspended at the bottom of your pool.

3. Back was your filter for about 30 minutes. Then turn off your filter and do it again.

4. Run your filter and your pool cleaner over night to get the left over filth on your pool.

5. Get a hold of your water test strips. If you presently don’t have them, it is best to go to your local super market or home depot to purchase them. Every pool owner has to have these. Water test strips can be your best friend when it comes to maintaining your pool. They tell you the current status of your water and then indicate what necessary steps to take to be able to address the situation. It’s the kind of thing that you won’t want to lack as a pool owner.

6. After taking note of your water test strips’ results, you will now be in the know of what adjustments and alterations to make to overturn your water’s greenish state. It might be the following: pH, alkalinity, chlorine and bromine levels. Just be sure to amend these levels on the recommended status for you to be able to use your pool again.

7. Apply a chlorine stabilizer if you are using a chlorinated pool system.

8. Submit algaecide to your water to kill the algae build up.

9. Pour in a scale, stain and metal control in the water.

10. Put in the water clarifier to thoroughly clear out that icky green color on your pool.

11. Run your filter and pool cleaner over night for the next 3 to 5 days. This will guarantee a cleaner and cleaner pool water in a week’s time.

12. In addition with step 11, carry out with the daily routine of skimming, brushing and vacuuming.

13. You may need to follow up on those chemicals in order to make your water safe to use again. Just make use of your water test strips to help you to get the job done.

Don’t fret, that greenish water has a solution. Just take that breather and get with it. The sooner you get done, the sooner you’ll get to dive in that clear and healthy pool water.

How to Use YouTube Videos to Find Customers and ...

By Taylor Garland

Video sharing sites like YouTube, Viddler, Revver, and many others are increasing in popularity and have literally millions of people sharing and watching videos made by individuals around the world. But, these video sites are not just for funny things like watching people fall off skateboards or play ping-pong in animal costumes! They can and should be used by businesses of all sizes to promote their business, educate their prospects and customers, and most importantly, build trust! And, this is a totally viable strategy for any kind of business, whether online or offline (i.e. brick and mortar physical location).

The reason online video is so powerful for business is that it is the next best thing to actually meeting someone in person. It is much easier to build trust with video than with text or even audio. Imagine if you were trying to decide between two hair salons, and one had a website with just text, and the other had a video with a quick tour of the salon, and a nice, welcoming message from the owner. Now, which hair salon are you going to visit first? The one with the video, of course, because you have now seen the salon and “met” the owner, so you’re more comfortable there. Always keep in mind that trust creates sales, and effective videos create trust!

In terms of equipment, please do not be overwhelmed by all of the gadgets and options out there. The fact is that just about any digital camera on the market today has video capability, and for your purposes as a small business owner the quality and features will be completely adequate. In other words, please do not run out to Best Buy and spend four hundred dollars on a digital camera. If you are in the market for a new digital camera so you can shoot some short videos, you should be able to get everything you need and more for one hundred and fifty dollars or less, and that is for a brand new camera. If you are really on a budget, you can try buying one used from Amazon or eBay for about thirty to fifty dollars. And, you may already have a digital video recorder built into your iPhone or other smartphone. If you do, I would encourage you to start with that because you have already paid for it, and because it is super convenient. You can always upgrade to an awesome video camera after your online videos have made you some money!

Now you will need to shoot some short one or two minute videos. Please do not worry about the quality of the videos, or about your acting skills and appearance on camera. In the past, when I have helped other small business owners through the process of getting videos online, I have always encountered a lot of angst and general nervousness about “on-camera appearance” and “lack of acting skills”. But, did you know that today’s online shopper or potential customer actually wants to see real people acting and talking like real people? This is probably the result of the reality TV craze, but the bottom line for you is that the more normal, real and genuine you are in your video, the more people will trust you. So, the pressure is off! If you stammer a little bit, repeat yourself once or twice, or are having a bad hair day, you will probably get more customers than if you deliver your lines like a seasoned professional. You will also find that after shooting about ten one or two minute videos, you will be much more comfortable, and the process will be fun rather than stressful. For now, just shoot one or two little videos and the proceed to the next step in this article.

At this point, you will want to create an account and a profile at a video sharing site like YouTube. I am happy to report that YouTube is completely free to use! There is a big yellow button in the upper right of YouTube that says “Upload”. Click this button and the system will walk you through the steps of uploading your video. YouTube will format the video for you, so you will not have to worry about any frustrating technical details. Make sure that you provide an accurate and descriptive title, description and tags for your video when you are uploading it. Tags should be words or phrases, separated by commas, that you think potential customers would enter into search engines like Google, Yahoo or MSN/Bing when they are looking for products or services like yours.

You can even set up your own YouTube “Channel” for free, which is like a traditional television channel except it is on YouTube. Your channel is a place where people can find all of your videos and other information about you and your business in one convenient place. Very interested people can even “subscribe” to your channel, so that they will not miss out when you post future videos. Make sure you fill in your profile information including your website so that it is easy for people visit you online after they have seen one of your videos.

Now, for a really spectacular way to use online videos… You can very easily get your videos that are up on YouTube to show up on your company’s blog or website, also for free! Once you upload a video to YouTube, on the upper right, hover your mouse over your account name, then click on “My Videos” on the drop down menu that appears. Then, click on the video you want to have show up on your website, and it will take you to a page featuring that video. On the right side will be a field called “Embed” with a bunch of code in the field. You just need to copy all of the code, and then paste it into your website or blog, wherever you want the video to show up. Blogging platforms like WordPress are set up so that it is very easy to add videos and photos in this fashion. Web design software like iWeb and Frontpage also make this quite easy. As a last resort, you could always contact a web expert on a site like Craigslist and pay them a little bit of money (maybe ten dollars) to show you where to put the “Embed” code so that your YouTube video shows up in the correct place on your website or blog.

That’s it folks! You have now created a short video, uploaded it to YouTube where it can be found by millions of people (including your potential customers), and then loaded it onto your website or blog too! Your YouTube videos also have a strong chance of showing up in regular Google search results, since Google owns YouTube and Google values video content much more than regular old text content. After going through this process a few times, it will all seem quite logical and natural, and you will be able to conveniently and cost-effectively find new prospects and convert them to paying customers by communicating with them in online videos.

10 Step-by-Step Business Startup Guide: Step 4

By Dave J

STEP 4: Organizational Structure

This is the step where I need to select an organization structure that best fits my business model. I personally find there is no “best” structure for all businesses. However, I normally prefer to select one that provides me with high autonomy and low tax liability. Again, this will also depend on the national, federal or local tax structure for each business entity in the country or state I conduct my business.

Before setting up my company, I would do insight research on all the options available for my particular business model, particularly the advantages and disadvantages of each formation, paying special attention to the tax implication and government formalities as well as red tape in the location or country where I operate. I never assume all countries are similar.

Let’s take a look at four common forms of business ownership:

1. Sole proprietor

2. Partnership

3. Corporation

4. Limited Liability Company

Before selecting the form of business, I always find it best to work closely with a lawyer or a financial planner to ensure I have the right information, compliance and resources that allow me to make the right choice.

Sole Proprietor

This is a very popular form of business in many countries (i.e. America, Canada, UK, India, Australia, Hong Kong, Malaysia, etc.) because so little is needed to set up a sole proprietorship. Apart from local business licenses, there are minimal government fees and paperwork. It is instant, cost effective and minimal (or even zero) compliant requirements by local authorities.

On the other hand, there is also considerable risk to consider. The owner’s personal assets are vulnerable to creditors and other liabilities. Sole proprietorship doesn’t get the advantage of certain tax breaks that are reserved for Corporation or Limited Liability Company.

In short, this form of business is very ideal for home based business that has no massive inventory or a high number of staffs.

Partnership

Similar to sole proprietorship, this form is very easy to set up and maintain, requiring minimal government fee and paperwork. The initial setup cost and maintenance fees to run a partnership are very low. Moreover, no capital is required to form a partnership. Each partner is not required to raise any capital to start this form of business.

On the downside, each partner is required to account full responsibility for all the company’s debts. If one of the partners defaults on a company loan, creditors can actually go after your personal assets and belongings. Besides that, capital raising is also very limited in a partnership. Just like sole proprietorship, partnership doesn’t get much tax incentives.

Corporation

There are a few types of corporations available depending on the location or country the owners conduct business. However, most corporations (in many countries) share similar characteristics.

The key advantage of incorporating a business is that it shields equity holders (owners) of the company from personal liability. In other words, if business hits hard times, creditors cannot go after the owners’ personal assets to make up for any company debts. Yet, most creditors nowadays would require the owners of the corporation to guarantee the shortfalls if the company goes under. Besides that, a corporation offers significant tax savings (usually not extended to sole proprietorship or partnership), greater business flexibility, company name protection and better opportunity to raise capital via venture capitalist or financial institution.

Bear in mind that corporations are not cheap to set up. It requires some initial set up fees and certain amount of regular maintenance. With a corporation, you have to keep a proper set of financial records, audited by a certified accountant. Depending on where the business is conducted, some government or local authority would require a minimum set of compliance and would also require regular fees to be paid.

There is one option that a corporation possesses – that allow owners to sell their shares of stock to the public (known as public listed corporation). Then this will involve higher startup capital (usually runs into the millions), more legal and meticulous accounting compliances to adhere to.

Limited Liability Company

As for many new entrepreneurs, choosing a business structure comes down to liability protection, low startup costing, tax savings and convenience. This form of business requires fewer formalities and less on-going paperwork than corporations while offering the same personal liability protection and tax flexibility. Just as with a corporation, the company name is protected, and the other members of the company are shielded from creditors and other company liabilities such as lawsuits. A limited liability company only requires the owners to keep minimal company records, and there is no limit to the number of equity owners.

Nonetheless, this form of business is dissolved when a member dies or undergoes bankruptcy. In comparison to sole proprietorship or partnership, it has more paperwork and complexity to set up and to be maintained.
